Zelazny

Meet Zelazny, our unusual, elegant, handsome stud!

What a boy! Bridlewood Zelazny of PrinceRoyal

    Sire: Bridlewood Night Prowler

    Dam: Awagati Amazonia of Bridlewood

Zelazny ("Zel") is our first stud cat, carefully chosen with the goals of our breeding program and the features of our current queens in mind. You can see his album of baby pictures here. We think you'll agree that he is extremely photogenic!

    Appearance

You can see the luminous quality of Zel's coat in the shine around his paws and up the edges of his front legs. Type and Coat! Zelazny has them both in spades.

Zelazny has a great head. His ears are small, rounded, and beautifully set. He has a nice long muzzle, a good chin, and a great backskull, with a wild facial expression and the feral yellow eyes of his Asian Leopard Cat great-great grandfather.

He is a very large (muscle, not flab!) cat with a long, sturdy, typey body and terriffic heavy boning, finished off with a very thick tail.

His coat is exquisite---so soft that if you close your eyes, you can't be sure if you're feeling fur or the wind. It is plush, heavily glittered, and crystal clear with no ticking whatsoever. His coat is so sleek and shining that it has a luminous quality in some lighting. And of course he is coated in golden glitter.

His richly-colored pattern is highly contrasted and clearly delineated. And what a pattern! Rosetting and spots within the marbling, spotted legs, and more markings becoming visible each month as he matures...

One of the things we particularly like about Zelazny is that his pattern actually DOES resemble marble. Many marble bengals have a pattern that looks as though someone took a fat paintbrush and made broad wirls or strokes with it. It's often very attractive, but it does not really resemble marble. Zelazny's pattern looks as though it really is veining shot through marble. And it is utterly elegant.

    Beauty in motion!

    Genetics

Zelazny is a tricolored, outlined, golden glittered, Brown Marble Tabby (BMT) Bengal. He is an F4 from the King of Asia ALC line; he also descends, farther back, from the Centerwall ALC. [You can view these ALCs here.]

    Purrsonality

Zel fishes with a paw for toys at the bottom of a bowl of water in the sink. Water games are his speciality.Despite his size and age, Zel is a sweetie. He adores having his extravagantly spotted tummy stroked and will lie on his back with all four huge paws in the air, purring, while that's attended to. It is quite funny to see such a big, male cat acting so much like a kitten.

But Zel is definitely all guy. He plays hard and fast, and with an energy that is unrivaled by our other adults. He's not as much of a high-jumper as Kate, but he can make prodigious horizontal bounds. He's also fast on his feet, much faster than his size would lead one to expect. His favorite game involving people is Fetch. When he has worn himself out with activity he makes himself a lair underneath the quilt on our bed.

Perhaps because he's an F4, Zel adores playing in his water bowl and the sink---wading, splashing, and having a watery great time. Likewise, he prefers to swipe his paw across the suface of his water before drinking it (as if to make sure it's clear of jungle stream debris, perhaps?). He also is the first of our cats to discover the joys of swinging well off the ground in a hammock, which has now become one of his favorite places to nap.
