Glossary, Abbreviations, and Acronyms

    ALC Asian Leopard Cat. The wild ancestor of the Bengal Cat.
    AB Allbreed
    AOT A cat whose sire or dam is registered as another breed.
    BOD Best of Division
    BOT A cat that has one grandparent registered as another breed.
    C3T A cat that has one great-grandparent registered as another breed and/or has an unregistered great-grandparent.
    COT A cat that has one great-grandparent registered as another breed.
    F1 First generation cross between an ALC and another Bengal, usually an SBT.
    F2 A Bengal that is two generations removed from the ALC.
    F3 A Bengal that is three generations removed from the ALC.
    Fuzzies Also known as the "uglies" or the "gray uglies." A stage in a bengal kitten's development in which its coat becomes dull in color, the markings become indistinct, and the fur becomes rough and shaggy. Many kittens are in this stage just when they are old enough to go to their new homes. For an example of how much difference the fuzzies can make, see our examples.
    TIBCS The International Bengal Cat Society
    TICA The International Cat Association
    SBT Stud Book Tradition. The TICA designation for any domesticated purebred cat; a bengal must be four or more generations removed from the ALC (that is, an F4, F5, F6, etc.) to be classified in SBT catgeory.
